Mining, Fishing, Crafting?
Im personally getting bored of GW. UW is getting boring, and PvP isn't for me.
Even raising another character is getting boring. But i love the skill system, and combat system.
But what I really missed was stuff like crafting, mining, fishing etc. I used to play two games a while ago called Tibia and Runescape.
Tibia was great because even though you'd have to wait for a spawn to come, in the meantime, myself and a few others would be camping at that place, and talking about random things, i.e socialising.
Then there was runescape, again i could do the same, except with fishing. I remember entering the fishing guild on World 1, and fishing at that place for hours and hours, the reason why i liked it was because I could talk to everyone else around there. Sometimes the odd auto-bot prevention system would pop up, i.e a Giant Fish would pop up and start smacking me across the head, but those who were real players moved away from these creatures and thats that. In the meantime, i'd be gathering resources to use.
Unfortuntely both games are annoying, because of the endless combat grind you would need to do, not the mention the massive death penality. In Tibia its 10% of your xp gone, and 2 skills lost.
Now back to Guild Wars.
Chatting in town is kinda annoying, because I'm 20, and most of these 'kids' just talk about:
"Hey baby"
"Strip!"
"Dance in 3.. 2.. 1.." <<-- Thats fun, but gets boring after a while lol
"Get lost"
Selling things in the game is just a joke, and so farming is kinda annoying. I've gathered so many things like a Barbed Spatha of Defence, 15-22, 15%dmg when enchanted, lengthens bleeding, +5 armor always. But selling that is just such a joke, that i don't want to bother to goto Ascalon Dist 1, and try to sell it. Hell, it took me 1 hour to buy a few warrior minor runes, because the text was gone so fast. - So farming isn't that fun anymore.
My guild is fun, we have a few GvGs, but PvP outside GvG isn't that fun i find. We also talk, but thats also limited since its only when certain members enter the game thats things liv'en up.
I guess if something like mining was included in the game - it would be fun, and wouldn't effect the overall system - because the only thing that would be effected would be material prices. Prices would probably be high at first, but players can always salvage as usual, but then prices will go down.
Plus if farming were introduced, it would probably be like:
"LFG Forming group to mine Iron in Shiverpeaks"
Then an 8 person group is formed
Then it'd be a nice alternative to what i usually do.
Today i had a bit of fun, only after showing two people how to farm. They got some decent drops, and i got mine as usual, but we had a good chat during several runs - and it was quite fun. Unfortunetely, they died most of the time, and my particular build requires creatures to hit me, in order to work.
I guess what i'm saying is that an alternative to farming creatures, missions, PvP and PvE would be more likeable in Guild Wars.

all you are basically looking for is a place and mundane reason for a chat session
somebody mentione an RPG district which you might try
as for adding those to GW no thanks
edit
if bored put it down for a while which is what i will do
you are not paying for the down time so no problem
i expect there will be a large space between my stop time and chapter 2 but when chapter 2 comes out i will buy it
this is not meant to be an alter life like a true MMORPG so dont expect it to have the continued variety needed for continued play
BTW i also do not pvp and have never bothered with wasteing time trying to trade with the screaming masses
as for runes i buy and sell to the trader for whatever the going price is and dont worry that i am selling a superior death magic for a whopping 45 gold

I was trying to get in before all the "GW ISN"T MMORPG" and all that crap started... but it seems we're teetering on the edge of that now...
I do want this... those who don't want it, don't do it. It in no way interferes with PvP and would add loads of depth to the RP aspect of the game which is what PvE is all about.
I don't care about WoW runescape or whatever, I dont' care about FPS, MMO, ETC. whatever. What I care about is fun. And this would add more options and more fun to the game.

As long as they aren't required, I see no reason why these shouldn't be in. I would prefer that they fix all the things that are broken in the game first, but even if very few people like these things, if those people would get more enjoyment out of the game because of these things, they should be added.

to be honest i dont PVP and am a total PVErt to my bones.
there has to be some reason they dont have things like this (so far) that would have a negative effect on either the performance or cost of maintaining the game which would cost them more if they did it
what i would have on my wish list would be a genuine town or city to explore in fine detail not a few massive rooms
a castle i could explore/fight my way through that was big enough (number of room wise) that there would be 2 res shrines on each floor and a dungeon which would take the catacombs in one corner
did i mention lots of rooms of all types from storerooms to torture chambers to a tower with the best view in the world
you get the idea
i wont get it but that is what i would love
in the meantime i am having a lot of fun with what they have provided

"Mining, Fishing, Crafting? Do we want it?"
To make the game more like a job? No thanks! If I wanted a secondary job I would either A: Go get a job at wendy's flipping burgers or B: Renew my Lineage II account. Gw feels like a game and I wanted it to stay just that.

too be honest i think taht would be a good idea. help get you money. You see guild wars is boring fater you complete it twice. And pvp sucks after awhile. There should be something at the end of guild wars that you cna always do that is very interesting and money making.

go farming solo for lots of money and all the excitement you want
if these things are added they should be voluntary and not have any meaningful game benefit since it was stated they were for social purposes not get ahead in the game purposes

It wont happen. ArenaNet stated LONG ago that crafting/whatever will not be in this game.

If you want "roleplaying" then try actually "roleplaying" becuase in no way does mining some rock add more "roleplaying" value to a game. Yes maybe some more ability to actually "roleplay" since you are standing around chipping away at a rock. So you can be in character while doing it.

basically you just want a dungeon crawl games there are pleanty of them oout there go find one.
The reason I think ppl are missing out is the fact that this game is called "Guild Wars" for a reason its supposed to be a pvp or in this case a gvg orientated game. Yes I think it's a little lacking in the PvE aspect seeing that at release you were to play thru the pve aspect of the game to unlock better skills and weapon mods for that very pvp aspect of the game.
I honestly think that all they really need to do is 1) add more item content. 2) unnerf the farming, since the reason they nerfed it in the 1st place was because of pvpers. now that that is fixed why punish the pvers. and 3) release the free summer thing or chapter 2 already. this game was basically a year old by the time of release to those of us that played since the E3 for everyone event back in 2004. The game hasnt changed much in that time.
anyways thats my 2 spits in a bucket on that topic.

I dunno about fishing, but there is a profitable crafting economy.
--
Purchase bulk materials at cheap prices.
Do a run to a crafter.
Make some more valuable crafting items.
Sell them to the trader for a small profit.
Repeat.
--
Easy as that.

The game has changed dramatically since E3 last year.
How do you suppose they'll release Chapter 2 and/or the summer release right now? I mean, the reason we're not getting any updates is cause they're finishing up work in the summer update. God knows if they've even started work on Chapter 2. These things don't just pop out of nowhere.

So you want to grind away....not many people do, its boring. The only reason people do it is because they get addicted or are 5 years old and thats all they know.
And I cannot believe you are compairing
to guild wars.
You are truely weird. You know you could rub your hand on sandpaper if you wanted grind.
